Municipal guarantee for loans

GENERELT

Beskrivelse

As a form of financial support, the social services may provide a guarantee for loans.

If the client does not fulfil his loan responsibilities and the municipality has to honour its obligations, the social services may recover the amount due from the client through the courts.

Målgruppe

Anyone who is temporarily unable to provide for his/her subsistence
Anyone who needs to borrow money for expenses that are not considered subsistence
Anyone who needs to borrow money even though he or she has not pursued all other opportunities for fending for himself/herself

Kriterier

The basic conditions for acquiring a loan guarantee are the same as for other financial support. A loan guarantee can be given to those unable to endure their subsistence or who need this due to a difficult life situation. In addition, it must be clear that the applicant will be able to pay back the loan.

The municipality determines whether support shall be given in the form of a loan or a guarantee. See sections 5-1, 5-2 and 5-4 of the Social Services Act.

OM SØKNADSPROSESSEN

Saksbehandlingstid

The municipality shall consider your application as soon as possible. If the matter cannot be determined within one month, you will be informed of this in writing with the reasons for the delay. At the same time you will be informed when you may expect to hear of the municipality’s decision.

Søknadsbehandling

The municipality shall obtain the necessary information in order to determine the matter. A decision is consequently made. Normally, a reason is given for the decision at the same time. You will always be given a reason if there are grounds to believe that you will not be satisfied with the decision. If the reasons are not stated, you may ask the municipality. This should be done within the time limit for making an appeal.

Klagemulighet

If you are not satisfied with the decision, you may appeal to the municipality within three weeks of having been informed. Explain why you are dissatisfied and why you feel the decision should be changed. If you need assistance, you may ask the municipality. If the municipality upholds its original decision, the matter will be sent to the county governor, who will decide whether the appeal may be allowed.
