You may choose the general practioner - GP - you want as your permanent doctor, but he/she must have the capacity to accept you as a patient and he/she must be incorporated into the permanent GP scheme. You may select a GP in another municipality than the one in which you reside. You may also select a GP who is not a member of the permanent GP scheme, but you will then have to pay a higher user charge. If you have parental responsibility for children under the age of 16, you may also choose a permanent GP for your child. If you are admitted to a nursing home, you may retain your permanent GP.
A permanent GP is one who has entered into an agreement with the municipality to participate in the permanent GP scheme. Everyone has the right to be associated with a specific GP. The GP shall be available to his patients and give these priority over those who are not on his list of registered patients.
